Osun Parliament Passes Asset Management Agency Bill

Osun House of Assembly has passed the ‘State of Osun Asset Management Agency Establishment Bill 2018’.

The Bill which is an Executive Bill was passed at a plenary presided over by the House Deputy Speaker, Hon. Akintunde Adegboye on Tuesday.

The passage of the bill followed a motion moved by the Leader of the House, Hon. Timothy Owoeye and seconded by the lawmaker representing Atakumosa East and West, Hon. Festus Komolafe that the bill be read for the third time, having undergone all the processes required.

After the passage of the Bill, the House directed its Clerk to forward same to the state’s governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for his assent.

The House also urged the Clerk to work in conjunction with the Leader of the House to ensure immediate return of the Bill to the Assembly within the stipulated period after the assent.

Also at the plenary, the State Parks and Garden Management Agency bill 2018 was read for the second time after a motion moved by Leader of the House and seconded by Hon. Akinloye Ajibola respectively.

Reading the policy thrust of the bill, Owoeye explained that if the bill is passed into law, it would provide job for unemployed youths and enhance healthy living amongst the people of the State.

The bill which seeks to create an agency that will administer, maintain and manage all designated parks and gardens in the state was welcomed by members of the parliament who jointly called for its speedy passage.

According to the content of the bill, the agency would be structured to beautify the state, promote afforestation in all ramifications, mitigate against the effects of climate change, generate income for the state and also curb unemployment by engaging youths.

The lawmakers in their separate remarks, applauded the bill as they described it as a proactive step at containing the incidence of environmental degradation.

Consequently, the House directed that the bill be committed to the joint committee on Judiciary, Human Right, Justice, Public petition and Legal matters for further action.
