Osun Police Arrest 12 Suspected Cultists Terrorising Residents

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of nine suspected members of the Eiye confraternity for an alleged threat to society.

According to a statement by the Command Spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, the suspects were arrested on October 13, after attacking a pharmacist at the Kajogbola Area of Iree.

The suspects are – Dolapo Abioye (27), Olaoye Tunde (26), Olarewaju Emmanuel (24), Ganiyu Saheed (25), Ashifat Ishaq (25), Ayoola Sodiq (26), Blessing Olayele (23), Gbadamosi Ibrahim (35), and Kehinde Folashade (28)

The suspected hoodlum had invaded the Area with cutlasses and some other dangerous weapons, demanding money from the residents.

“On 13/10/2025 at about 1700hrs, upon a distress call received from the complainant that, some armed hoodlums suspected to be members of unlawful society invaded Kajogbola Area, Iree town with cutlasses and some other dangerous weapons demanding for money from the residents of the Area, that one pharmacist was attacked by the hoodlums in the process and inflicted injuries on his head with cutlass.

“Immediately the distress call was received, Anti-cultism unit of the Command swung into action together with Police personnel from Iree Division, five suspects were apprehended at the scene and exhibits were recovered from them.

“Suspects confessed to be members of Eiye confraternity. Further investigation led to the arrest of an additional four suspects in a hotel in Iree,” Ojelabi said.

Exhibits recovered included three firearms, two vehicles, seven live cartridges, a lady’s bike, an axe, and a charm.

Similarly, the police said another two suspected cultists were arrested on October 14, with a locally made cut-to-size pistol loaded with a live cartridge at Oja-Oba market area, Iragbiji.

According to the statement, the suspects – Oluwasegun Michael (26) and Okupe Boluwatife (20), who were intercepted by members of the Vigilante group, confessed to being members of the Eiye confraternity.

The statement said: “In the same vein, on 14/10/2025 at about 0630hrs, a member of a vigilante group reported at Iragbiji Divisional Police headquarters that, while he was on guard duty with his men at Oja-Oba market square, they stopped two boys named Oluwasegun Michael 26 years, and Okupe Boluwatife 20 years, coming from Ikirun, search was conducted where one locally made cut to size pistol loaded with a live cartridge and UTC axe were recovered from them.

“Suspects interrogated and both confessed to be members of Eiye confraternity and that they escaped from Iree due to a hot chase given to them by operatives of the Anti-cultism unit.”

Meanwhile, the police also confirmed the arrest of a 22-year-old man, Ismail Damilare, for terrorising residents of Osogbo, the state capital.

According to the statement, “On 19/10/2025 at about 1900hrs, upon information received from the residents of Akede Area, Oke Baale Osogbo that, some armed hoodlums were terrorizing the area with guns and cutlasses, the Anti-cultism unit of the Command swung into action and moved to the area, where one Kilako Ismail Damilare ‘m’ age 22 yrs a.k.a killer of No.5, Gbonmi Area, Osogbo was arrested, exhibits recovered, while others took to their heels.”

Ojelabi said the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command,Ibrahim Gotan, urged youth and students to focus on their education and avoid anything that can jeopardize their future.

The Osun Police boss said the Command under him would not spare anyone involved in criminal activities.
