Osun Police Arrest Two For Killing Motorcyclist In Iwo

The Osun State Police Command on Tuesday announced the arrest of two persons for allegedly killing a 26-year-old Motorcyclist, Segun Olatunji in Iwo town.

The suspects – Adebayo Abeeb (27) and
Fawas Akeem (19) were said to have posed as farmers and employed the service of the deceased to convey them from Odo-Ori area of the town to their farmland along Olupon.

A statement by the spokesperson for the Osun Police Command,
DSP Abiodun Ojelabi noted that the suspects, on their way to the farm, stopped the motorcyclist and slit his throat with a knife.

Ojelabi noted that the suspects were arrested in Ibafo, Ogun State, while attempting to sell the deceased’s motorcycle.

He added that Adedayo, during interrogation, confessed that he, along with three others, had previously carried out three successful operations in areas such as Ori-Eru, Agbowo, and Ebu Alare in Iwo.

He said, “Immediately the report was made, Police Detectives of the Command swiftly put necessary investigation mechanisms in place and fortunately, the duo of Habeeb Adedayo ‘m and Akeem Fawas ‘m were apprehended at Ibafo, Ogun State, while attempting to sell the deceased’s motorcycle. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to having posed as farmers and lured the deceased by employing his service to convey them from the Odo-Ori area, Iwo, to their farmland along Olupon, Iwo, with an enticing sum of five thousand naira (N5,000).

“The suspects further confessed that, after reaching a certain location, they asked the deceased to stop; Habeeb Adedayo stabbed him in the neck, dragged him from the motorcycle, and slit his throat with a knife. The suspects admitted to have committed the crime.

“Furthermore, Habeeb Adedayo confessed that he, along with three others, excluding Akeem Fawas, had previously carried out three successful operations in areas such as Ori-Eru, Agbowo, and Ebu Alare in Iwo. One motorcycle and a knife were recovered as exhibits.”

In another development, Ojelabi said operatives of the command last Friday, while on stop and search duty at Unity junction, Ikire, intercepted a stolen Toyota Camry car.

The Police PRO said the driver of the car took to his heels while the officers were checking his documents, adding that “preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was removed from a park at Owode Ede on the same date, midnight.”

Ojelabi said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, advised commercial motorcyclists to be vigilant and be security conscious about the commuters they carry.
