Osun Police Fails To Nab Unregistered Minibus Drivers, Threatens Clampdown On Those Covering Number Plates

Public office holders in Osun State have been warned by the State Police Command to desist from covering their vehicles’ number plates to avoid being arrested.

The command public relations officer, SP Yemisi Opalola, said this while fielding questions from journalists after a parade of suspects at the State Command headquarters in Osogbo during the week.

Opalola said only the state governor, his deputy, and the speaker were allowed to cover their vehicles’ number plates.

She added that no individual, either elected public office holder or private person, has the right to cover their vehicle’s plate number, saying anyone caught would be arrested.

According to her with the present security situation in the State, indiscriminate covering of vehicle registration numbers constitutes a security risk, hence, it is outlawed.

“Only the Governor, the Deputy Governor, Speaker of the House of Assembly are permitted to cover their vehicle number plate.

“Anybody seen apart from these three persons can be arrested. We cannot afford to joke with security issues in the state any longer” she added.

Meanwhile, Osun Defender had reported that some commercial minibuses (Korope) are plying Osun roads without number plates.

The minibuses were distributed by a foundation owned by the elder sister of the state governor, Yeye Dupe Adeleke-Sanni.

The medium also reports that despite calls from residents and civil society for the government to pay attention to the unregistered buses, nothing has been done to address the issue.
