A politician seeking Caretaker Chairmanship appointment in one of the local governments within Osogbo, capital of the State of Osun, Mr. Rasaq Salami, has been duped of a sum of N2,680,000.
Salami, according to investigations by OSUN DEFENDER, was duped by a set of people who fraudulently offered him political and spiritual assistance to ensure that he was appointed as the Caretaker Chairman for his local government.
However, the Osun Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested one Mrs. Omolara Solanke, who was said to be a contact person to the people who allegedly duped Salami.
According to a press statement by the Spokesperson of the Osun NSCDC, Mr. Daniel Adigun, Solanke conspired with five other suspects, took Salami to a town in Ekiti State where the sum was obtained from him.
The statement said the suspects fled after collecting the money from Salami.
“After several failed attempts to get in touch with the fraudsters, Rasaq lodged a complaint with the anti-fraud unit of the corps in Ekiti State, where investigation into the alleged crime began. The anti-fraud unit of NSCDC, Osun command, was contacted to track the suspects.
“In the process, Omolara Solanke was apprehended. The NSCDC boss in Osun State, Commandant, Emmanuel Ocheja, through the anti-fraud unit, handed over the suspect to the Ekiti Command of the corps for further investigation and possible prosecution”, said the statement.
