Osun Poll: IGP Assures Residents of Violence Free Election

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has assured residents and Nigerians that the September 22nd governorship election in the State of Osun, would be peaceful and violence free.
The IGP said this at a one-day seminar he organised for electoral stakeholders in the state with the theme:  “Imperativeness of Police Collaboration With Essential Stakeholders: Towards Secured, Free, Fair and Credible Election in Nigeria” on Thursday.
He said each of the local governments in the state would be massively policed to ensure peaceful conduct of electorate.
According to him, critical stakeholders would still meet to plan, adding that the police would distribute telephone numbers that residents can call in case of violence.
IGP Idris, Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Segun Agbaje and political parties also agreed to work towards peace at the forthcoming poll.
The seminar which was under the chairmanship of the Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife discussed ways at achieving peace before during and after the poll.
In their separate remarks, the stakeholders including governorship candidates in the state agreed to be peaceful before, during and after the September 22nd governorship election.
In his address, the State REC reiterated his commitment to transparency, neutrality and credibility at the poll.
He thereby called on the residents of the state to collect their Permanent Voter Cards.
