The state government of Osun has again reiterated its commitment to creation of jobs and weath for teeming youths through Mining.
Governor Gboyega Oyetola disclosed this at the 2nd Security Sensitization Meeting with Stakeholders in Ife / Ijesa Zone Tagged: Opportunities and Challenges in the Mining Sector” held at Zenababs Half Moon Resort, Ilesa.
Governor Oyetola said his administration is committed to the eradication of banditry, illegal mining, kidnapping and such vices in the state, thereby making lives conducive for the citizens.
He stressed that his administration is based on the safety of lives and properties of the people.
He added that “henceforth, all miners operating in the state must be registered to enable the government keep on record. No Miner should operate in this state without being record”.
“Community leaders and Sherikis must play a key role in ensuring that this directive is effectively carried out. Thereafter, the Sherikis will be held accountable for any act of crimes committed by Miners in their respective domain”. Any landlord that harbours illegal miners will also be prosecuted”.
“Consequently, our people are in the best position to expose the activities of the criminalities as they lived within the communities. We are safe and secured when we share our differences and make suggestions available to stakeholders in the security sector”, he added.
Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Eniitan Ogunwusi Ojaja the second urged the government to be more closer to the Miners to be able to pay their taxes, levies and dues.
Oba Adeyeye Eniitan Ogunwusi added that “the economy of the state lies in Mining. If we re-organize ourselves, we will get to the promised land. We Royal fathers are ready to work hand-in-hand with the government to realize the dream of economic stability in the state of Osun”.
Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Aromolaran eulogized Governor Gboyega Oyetola for his steadfastness in tackling security challenges, commending him for applying divine wisdom to the burning issue.
He challenged the state government and the security chiefs to be alive to their responsibilities to ensure that the influx of the Hausa and Fulani does not destabilize the state.
All stakeholders in various departments of security sector had earlier submitted their views and opinions on the ways to eradicate criminalities in the communities.
Earlier, the deputy chief of staff, Mr. Abdullahi Binuyo explained to the gathering the essence of the meeting which dwelt extensively on sanitizing the state from illegal miners with the efforts of all and sundry.
“The plans of the government and the host communities is to harness and discuss the progress of Osun. Mr. Governor is concerned about the lives and properties of the citizens”, he added.
Speaking on behalf of the miners, consultant on mining, Miss Jumoke Lawoyin said the Miners had all agreed to work with the state government.
