- As Basiru Welcomes Development, Urges Lawmakers To Defect To APC
The three senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State have endorsed President Bola Tinubu as their sole and legitimate presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
In a joint statement signed yesterday in Abuja by Senator Kamarudeen Lere Oyewumi (DP, Osun West), Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla (DP, Osun Central), and Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi (PDP, Osun East), the Senators affirmed their unwavering support for President Tinubu’s continued leadership.
The Senators who said they support the President’s transformative infrastructure projects and sound economic policies, which have already begun to yield tangible benefits, most notably the significant reduction in food prices and marked improvements in national security, underscored their pride in representing a constituency that stands firmly behind President Tinubu’s visionary leadership.
They called on the President to sustain his relentless drive towards delivering even greater achievements for Nigeria’s future.
The statement read, “This overwhelming endorsement goes beyond mere symbolism; it is a clear reflection of genuine confidence and satisfaction with President Tinubu’s delivery of democratic dividends. There is no credible opposition within our ranks, the entire Osun Central stands resolutely united behind this historic decision.”
Reacting to the endorsement, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ajibola Basiru, urged the lawmakers to leave the troubled PDP for the progressive camp.
The APC scribe, a governorship hopeful, while reacting through Senator Ajibola Basiru Campaign Organisation (SABCO) commended the PDP senators, saying that they have done what the Yorubas would call Omoluabi.

A statement signed by Prof. Remi Ajala, on behalf of SABCO, reads,”The public recognition by the PDP senators of President Tinubu’s achievements especially in the areas of infrastructure development, economic reforms, food security, and national security is another testimonial that Nigeria is working under our leader and moving towards the clear path of development and it shows a clear act of truthfulness and statesmanship.
“This shows his leadership and style of governance are bringing positive results to Nigerians, including the electorates and constituents in their different senatorial districts in Osun State.
“We appreciate that these senators have acknowledged the Renewed Hope Agenda and how it is beginning to positively impact their constituencies. This kind of honest leadership deserves to be encouraged and applauded, especially in a time when Nigerians seek real progress.”
He admonished the PDP senators to take their loyalty and support a step further, stating that it is not enough to praise the President from a distance for self-serving purposes but that they should wholly align with the progressive family at the national and state levels to cement their endorsement of President Tinubu.
According to the campaign organisation, their full alliance and alignment with APC at the state level will show true commitment and allow Osun State and its citizens to fully benefit from the President’s bigger vision to integrate development across the length and breadth of Nigeria.
“Pitching your tent with the APC will help bring the needed development to Osun APC-led state government when inaugurated in 2026, in key sectors such as infrastructure, education, agriculture, sustainable economy, and healthcare. It will also help end the underperformance and maladministration currently witnessed under the deceptive administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“Finally, we call on the three Osun PDP senators to display courage and show real leadership by joining forces with progressive elements and emulating other national assembly lawmakers who have already moved to the APC. This is the time to act for the good of Osun State and Nigeria at large,” Basiru stated.
Meanwhile, a staunch loyalist of Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Samuel Ogungbemi, has told the lawmakers that declaring their support for President Tinubu would not lead to an automatic re-election for them.
Ogungbemi, in a Facebook post, argued that President Tinubu does not need the lawmakers’ backing to win in 2027.

He also said the opposition APC will reclaim Osun State during next year’s governorship election.
He wrote, “Declaring support for President Tinubu doesn’t guarantee Osun Senators automatic re-election. Asiwaju does not need your backing to win, and APC will reclaim Osun come 2026.”
