Osun Teachers Lament Non-Payment Of Leave Bonus
Public school teachers in Osun State have complained about the non-payment of their leave bonus by the state government, describing the situation as “unfair and demoralising”.
The teachers, who spoke under the condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation, said the leave bonus has not been paid for over 11 months.
They lamented that the delay has worsened their financial hardship amid rising inflation and the high cost of living.
A teacher in one of the primary schools in Osogbo, told OSUN DEFENDER, “We don’t hear anything about our leave bonus. Since April last year, we have not received anything and we heard that some core civil servants are getting paid.”
Another teacher in Ikirun, headquarters of Ifelodun local government, said, “The last time we asked, we were told that it was the local government that ought to pay us. However, with the situation in our local governments, we don’t know our fate. We are urging Governor Ademola Adeleke to help us look into this.”
When contacted, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Osun State, Murtala Jimoh, said only Primary school teachers have not been paid their leave bonus.
Jimoh attributed the non-payment of the leave bonus to the ‘withholding’ of the Local government allocations.
He said, “The withheld allocation of LGs from which the primary schools are paid salaries and leave allowances was responsible for the non-payment. However, the government has paid up to May 2025.”
