Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), in the state of Osun, Dr. oluwatosin Odeyemi has called on Governor Gboyega Oyetola to make the needs of states’ tertiary institutions his priority instead of wasting the scarce resources.
Odeyemi, who spoke on the recent presentation of two vehicles to some students associations in the state; NAOSS and NANS, in a statement he signed and made available to Newsmen said the government’s action was a total misplacement of priority which should be condemned.
He advised the governor to take a walk round tertiary institutions in the state, interact with students to know their suffering in other to ameliorate them, instead of embarking on what will not add any value to our educational system.
In is statement, Odeyemi, who doubles as the state secretary for IPAC, “I believe people around Mr. Governor are not giving him right advice. Taking UNIOSUN for instance, despite the increase in students capacity, yet no additional lecture halls, it will soon get to a stage whereby students will be sitting on the corridor to receive lectures.
“Except for Osogbo Campus, lack of electricity is taking toll on the students, if you go there during lectures, immediately there is light, the lecturer will have to pause and wait for students to fix their mobile phones where to charge them.
“Moreover, whenever there is no light, to get water in those campuses is another problem. Instead of the government to look at those areas and find lasting solutions to them, distribution of buses is their priority.
“Go to OSPOLY Iree campus, unavailability of students’ hostel should be looked into. Living among indigenes is posing a serious threat to the safety of students, likewise in other tertiary institutions in the state”, he added.
