Osun: Weeks After Alleged Food Poisoning, Pupils Resume Midday Meal

Following the alleged poisoning at the St. James Primary School B, Owoope, Osogbo, were some pupils of the school were hospitalised after taking the meal, pupils of the school have resumed eating the free meal.

The incident happened on Monday, December 11, 2023, after the sick students allegedly ate rice with egg and vegetables.

Following the incident, the state government suspended the Federal Government sponsored school feeding programme in December.

The government also conducted a probe into the incident with the affected pupils subjected to medical tests at the Uniosun Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.

Also, a delegation of the Federal Government, led by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on School Feeding, Yetunde Adeniji, paid a visit to Osun State following the alleged food poisoning incident.

Adeniji said the visit was a fact-finding one to get abreast with updates on the purported food poisoning on December 12 under the state government’s Home Grown School Feeding Programme.

She noted that there was a misrepresentation of what happened at the school.

Although, the state government is yet to come out with the findings of its probe weeks after, the medium gathered that the school feeding programme had since resumed in the school with pupils eating the midday meal.

The Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, on Monday, said the programme resumed not long after the government probe was concluded.

“The programme resumed not long after it was suspended after the government had done thorough investigations. The initiative is running without hitch and the pupils are eating without any problem,” he said.
