A bill to provide for the establishment of Osun Youth Development Commission has scaled through the second reading on the floor of the State of Osun House of Assembly.
The bill tagged Osun Youth Development Commission establishment bill 2020 when passed into law shall harness and develop the full potential of youth as partners in Nation building.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye at plenary stated that it is envisaged that the commission when established shall provide leadership in the setting of priorities and direction for all youth developmental activities.
He added that the establishment of the Commission shall encourage and enhance state-wide active participation of the youth in all governmental and non-govermental programs, projects and activities affecting the youths.
Owoeye held that the bill is a wake up call for youths across the state to explore their inner potentials to succeed and putting youths in it’s rightful position.
According to him, “Economically, these are desperate times for us as a people, considering the huge financial burden on our state, the dwindling allocation due to the fall in price of crude oil and the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging our economy. An established Youth Development Commission will pull resources together to implement youth oriented programmes of the state.
“Our youths are the most hit during this pandemic, the job being lost is unimaginable. The law when passed will redifine the employment policy of the state government and also train youths on survival jobs as the state wriggles out of the devastation caused by COVID-19.
“The potential of the bill before us is limitless and it is an honour for me personally to be part of it”.
The Speaker pointed out that the Governor of the state shall appoint for the Commission it’s Chief Executive Commissioner and an Executive Secretary, adding that such appointee shall have cognate experience in the Private/Public sector.
