Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State on Wednesday paid glowing tributes to the founding fathers of the state as he rolled out his administration’s scorecard in commemoration of the 34th anniversary of Osun’s creation.

In a statewide broadcast to mark the day, Adeleke described the creation of Osun on August 27, 1991, as the outcome of years of agitation, sacrifice, and determination by visionary leaders who believed in self-determination.

According to him, the courage and resilience of those agitators, community leaders, traditional rulers, and political actors remain the bedrock of the Osun of today.

“Their labour was not in vain; they fought tirelessly, not for themselves, but for the future generations yet unborn,” he said.

The governor, who restated his administration’s commitment to deepening good governance, highlighted a number of achievements recorded under his watch.

He listed the provision of borehole water across the 332 wards in the state, road construction and rehabilitation, rural electrification, and the delivery of transformers to underserved communities as part of infrastructural strides.

On healthcare, Adeleke disclosed that over 60,000 residents had benefitted from the Imole Surgical and Medical Outreach initiative, while more than 30,000 indigenes had been enrolled under the Osun Health Insurance Scheme.

He added that his government had also renovated over 200 primary healthcare centres.

The governor further noted progress in the education sector, stressing that schools were being renovated across the state.

He also pointed to economic interventions such as regular salary payment, fertiliser subsidies, tractor support for farmers, and empowerment schemes for small-scale businesses.

While acknowledging that the state still grapples with challenges, Adeleke maintained that the resilience which birthed Osun remains alive.

He urged citizens to embrace unity, transparency, and the Omoluabi values as the state works towards shared prosperity.

“Anniversaries are not just about remembrance; they are calls to renewed action. The Osun of our dreams, prosperous, peaceful, inclusive, and self-reliant is within our reach, but it will take the collective hands of all,” he said.

Adeleke, who expressed gratitude to residents for their support, pledged to continue championing people-centred governance.

He called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil servants, farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs to remain partners in building the state of their dreams.

“Together, we can make Osun a model of excellence and progress. Our strength lies in our unity, diversity, and shared vision for a prosperous and peaceful Osun State,” he declared.
