Osun’s Peace Must Not Be Trampled, Oluwo Warns Politicians
The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, has urged politicians in Osun State to avoid actions that could destabilise the state’s peace, following violent clashes at local government secretariats.
In a statement on Monday, his press secretary, Alli Ibrahim, said the monarch was alarmed by reports of attacks linked to the crisis over the reinstatement claims of sacked All Progressives Congress (APC) council chairmen.
The dispute, triggered by last week’s Court of Appeal ruling, led to confrontations with members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Oluwo condemned the violence, stating, “This does not reflect the true image of Osun as the Land of Virtue. Let us prioritise lives and safeguard the infrastructure built with our collective resources.”
He appealed to political actors to embrace peace, warning that violence would only drag the state backward.

“To my people in Iwoland, we are one family. Any harm done to another is an injury to oneself because we are all connected. Learn from past political violence—none of those involved ended well,” he said.
He also cautioned against acts that could harm Iwo, stating, “Anyone attempting to destroy Iwo will face traditional vengeance. Nemesis will catch up with them.
“Political interests are temporary, but Osun State is permanent. Let peace and orderliness be our mandate,” he concluded.
