Outcry As Boy Who Stood Before Peter Obi’s Convoy Reportedly Detained In Kirikiri Prison

A wave of public outrage has greeted reports that the young boy who gained national attention after boldly standing in front of the convoy of Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, during the 2023 general elections, is now being detained at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility in Lagos.

The boy, whose name is yet to be officially disclosed, was reportedly apprehended while returning from work in his neighbourhood.

Eyewitnesses allege he was falsely accused of theft and street fighting by individuals in the area, who subsequently handed him over to the police.

The accusations have since raised eyebrows, with many describing the charges as trumped up and unjust.

An X (formerly Twitter) user with the handle @Hausa_girl brought the matter to public light earlier in the week. She revealed that the boy’s mother has been actively following up the case, attending court hearings and seeking legal redress.

“Jonathan told us about the young boy. I’ve spoken with his mother, and we also attended his last court hearing at Orege Court in Ajegunle on the 27th of March. The case was adjourned till the 28th of this month,” she wrote.

The case file, according to reports, is currently before the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), as the court awaits legal advice.

Meanwhile, human rights activist, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, has called for urgent intervention in the matter. “Given the boy’s apparent innocence, immediate rescue efforts are necessary. If anyone has access to his lawyers or family, kindly notify us without delay,” Sowore appealed via his official handle.
