There was widespread outrage on Friday following harrowing accounts shared by two young women who were allegedly assaulted, stripped naked, and left with severe injuries by a popular Port Harcourt-based realtor, Maduba Okechi Christian, at a nightclub in Rivers State.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday at Blacbox nightclub in Port Harcourt, has since gone viral on social media, with videos and photos posted by the victims sparking public condemnation and calls for the prosecution of the alleged perpetrator.

The victims, who were celebrating a birthday, accused the realtor said to be the Chief Executive Officer of Ceemore Group of Companies and a mobile police officer attached to him, of orchestrating the attack after one of the ladies declined his advances.

One of the victims, Thonia Okoye, whose birthday was being celebrated, narrated in a TikTok video how the suspect approached their reserved table and became violent after being politely turned down.

“This man came to our seat, my friend was making a selfie video, and he aggressively told her to stop. Next thing, he began threatening us and breaking bottles,” she said tearfully.

Okoye further alleged that Maduba, with the help of his bodyguards, dragged her down the stairs, stripped her naked, and beat her mercilessly.

“They broke my friend’s head with a bottle, smashed another girl’s tooth, and dragged me on the floor like a criminal,” she added.

She stated that she paid N200,000 for the birthday reservation and had no prior interaction with the man before the incident.

Another victim, Juliet Obasi, said she travelled from Owerri to Port Harcourt to celebrate with her friend but ended up being hospitalised after the realtor allegedly smashed a bottle on her head.

“He accused us of recording him, and even though I explained I was taking a selfie, he launched an attack. I started bleeding profusely,” she said.

Obasi also claimed that another member of their group suffered a broken tooth during the attack.

The women expressed disappointment at the management of Blacbox nightclub, accusing them of inaction and bias in favour of the alleged assailant.

“The club’s security did nothing. The waitress kept hailing him while we begged for help,” Obasi recounted.

According to PUNCH, the incident was reported at the Olu Obasanjo Divisional Police Station.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), confirmed that both the club manager and the suspect had been invited for questioning.

The Divisional Police Officer handling the case was said to have also extended an invitation to the victims.

Reacting to the uproar, the club owner, Greatcool Ejekwu, popularly known as “Datfairboy,” described the incident as unfortunate and confirmed he had petitioned relevant security agencies over the matter.

“No human deserves to be assaulted in that manner. I condemn what happened in its entirety,” he said.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the accused realtor were unsuccessful. Calls and messages sent to his known contacts and verified Facebook account were ignored.

Meanwhile, social media users have continued to demand justice, describing the incident as a gross abuse of power and privilege.

“This is wickedness of the highest order. That man must be arrested,” one Facebook user wrote. Another added, “This is why many women avoid nightlife in Nigeria. You could be brutalised simply for existing.”
