A video allegedly showing a House of Representatives member with tens of millions in cash stashed in an unknown location believed to be his house has triggered a wave of criticism and frustration on social media.
The footage which has been circulated widely was accompanied by a campaign song to praise President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress and rendered in Hausa language.
This has prompted calls from Nigerian citizens for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate and hold those responsible accountable.
However, many Nigerians expressed skepticism, doubting that any meaningful action would be taken against the high-ranking official.
The reaction on social media was swift and vocal.
Users accused the EFCC of selective enforcement, alleging bias when it comes to prosecuting politicians from the northern region.
Twitter user @gfxxo_Funny commented, “The funny thing is EFCC won’t arrest him or prosecute him because they are northerners.” Similarly, another user, @abikityaustinc, lamented, “Na them get Nigeria, EFCC won’t do anything.”

Other commenters voiced disappointment over the double standards in law enforcement.
@Justice_Chioma_ accused the EFCC of “selective amnesia,” saying that when southern Nigerians are involved, the agency acts promptly, but northern figures often go unpunished.
Outrage over perceived inequality in law enforcement and governance has become a familiar refrain among Nigerians, who see the embezzlement of public funds as a driver of widespread poverty and inequality.
Some netizens highlighted the irony of alleged wealth flaunted by politicians amid the country’s economic struggles. User @_oyiza commented, “When it comes to Hausa, EFCC dey get temporary amnesia,” while @djmagicbeatz added, “They are flashing the money they embezzle in front of us, no fear.”
The criticism extended beyond the EFCC to broader systemic issues in Nigerian politics.
A twitter user @gudgurl_eveya remarked, “The law they make is not for them. EFCC will not see this one. CBN will not see.” Other users expressed sorrow for the struggling masses, like @ivy.victor, who noted, “And we have people on the streets who barely even have money to feed.”
