Outrage As Tinubu Sends Shettima To Welcome Political Decampees Hours After Abduction Of 25 Schoolgirls
There was outrage on social media after Vice President, Kashim Shettima and other All Progressives Congress (APC) bigwigs travelled to Kogi State for a political rally to welcome politicians decamping to the ruling party, just hours after 25 schoolgirls were abducted in Kebbi State.
Shettima, who represented President Bola Tinubu, along with the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, and the APC chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, arrived in Lokoja, Kogi State capital, for the rally on Monday evening.
Stanley Nkwocha, spokesperson for Mr Shettima, announced this in a statement on Monday evening, posting a video of the vice president alighting from the presidential jet.
“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Vice President Kashim Shettima @officialSKSM has arrived Kogi State in the company of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu @OfficialBenKalu, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, @OfficialAPCNg, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe @nentawe1, and Deputy National Chairman (North) Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori and other party bigwigs,” the statement reads.

Shettima and other APC bigwigs, the statement said, “will be joining the Kogi State governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo @OfficialOAU, in welcoming numerous political decampees to the APC fold.”
Reacting, an X user, Chiedozie Onyeke, said, “We all know that the government of the day prioritises power grab over its responsibilities, but one would have expected that they would read the room and pretend to care about the families affected by these incidents. Couldn’t they postpone the damn defection party? The government should be mourning and reassuring us that they are, at least, interested in providing us with security even if they are not”.
Another X user, Christiana Daniel, wrote, “This is the height of insensitivity. It’s very obvious the Tinubu-led administration is not in touch with Nigerian reality”.
“This is their priority. School children are abducted and killed, and a general and his contingent are also killed, but it’s all about master strategies, welcoming everyone to the APC that matters. Country of particular concern,” another X user, Comrade Iba Monso said.
Meanwhile, the presidency has deleted the post on X announcing that President Bola Tinubu sent Vice President Kashim Shettima to Kogi State to celebrate and welcome defecting politicians to the ruling All Progressives Congress party, amid backlash.
