Outrage Over Eviction Notice To Osun Govt School Staff
Some staff members of St. Mary’s Grammar School, Iwo, Osun State have been reportedly evicted from the school’s staff quarters by representatives of the Catholic Mission, OSUN DEFENDER reports.
According to a press release by the Ta’awunu Human Rights Initiative (THURIST) and signed by its Director General, Sulaymon Tadese, government workers occupying the facility within the school premises were served legal notices, demanding that they vacate the apartment on or before May 31, 2026.
The development, according to THURIST, has generated anxiety, confusion and tension within the school community and residents of Iwo.
The Islamic organisation called on the Osun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Osun State Ministry of Education to urgently intervene.
The group also demanded an immediate suspension of the quit notice pending a full government investigation.
Besides, the group called for official clarification of ownership and boundaries of the affected properties and the protection of government workers from intimidation.
Besides, the group called for transparent intervention by the Osun State Government and peaceful resolution of the matter in the interest of education and public order.
The former SUBEB Chairman, Ibukun Fadipe and Commissioner for Education, Dipo Eluwole, were unreachable when contacted about the incident.
