Over 1,000 Osun Muslims Rally Support For Palestine (Photos)

The ancient city of Ile Ife was agog on Sunday as over a thousand Muslims in Osun State rallied support for Palestine.

The Muslims both male and females from various towns in Osun State coverged in Ile Ife at Enuwa Central Mosque and trooped out to various streets In Ife. They marched down from Enuwa, Lagere, Sabo, Ilare and Odudawa Street.

They were carrying placards with different inscriptions such as ,’Free Palestine, free Gaza’ ‘End Israel aparthied now!’, ‘Long Live Palestine’ Nigerians unite for Palestine.’

It was gathered that the rally started around 4:30pm and ended by 6pm.

Our correspondent reports that the protesters were surrounded by security men to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

Those who were at the rally organised by Muslim Awareness International, Ile Ife branch include top Islamic scholars, clerics and leaders of various Muslim organisations.

This is coming two days after the International Court of Justice on Friday ordered Israel to prevent genocidal acts in Gaza.

The United Nations’ top court said Israel must prevent genocidal acts in Gaza and facilitate “urgently needed” humanitarian aid into the besieged territory, handing down rulings in a case that has drawn global attention.

The court urged Israel to refrain from any possible genocidal acts as it presses its military operation in the Gaza Strip, but stopped short of ordering a ceasefire.

Israel must take “immediate and effective measures to enable the provision of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian assistance to address the adverse conditions of life faced by Palestinians,” the court said.

The court listed in particular, killing members of a group, causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group, deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part and imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group, as acts Israel must prevent against.

The court reminded parties to the case that the ruling creates international legal obligations on Israel.
