Herdsmen have reportedly clashed with the Benue people once again with over 24 lives claimed. NIGERIAN TRIBUNE reports that no fewer than 24 people have been killed again in Benue State. The killng occurred on Monday afternoon in Omusu Edimoga, in Okpoku Local Government Area of Benue State, mostly after affected women and children.
Ogwuche according to THE PUNCH newspaper explained that some herdsmen had reported to the police, the loss of their cows some kilometres away from their villages. A peace meeting had already been called by Ogwuche when reports got to him that the herdsmen has already invaded the village and killed people.
VANGUARD says that the a particular source in the community disclosed that the well armed herdsmen stormed the village about 4pm, shooting sporadically at anything they sighted and burning down houses in the community. His words “ it was a bloody day evening in Okpokwu, armed herdsmen stormed the Omusu village and opened sporadic fire on the locals killing and butchering anyone and anything they came across.
DAILY SUN reports that the incident came barely a month after the remains of 73 peoples killed in a midnight bloody attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Guma and Logo local government areas were given mass burial on a site at the industrial layout along Naka Road in the state capital.
