OYES Boss Pays Fine Of 4 Inmates To Mark 70th Birthday

The forum of the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme, O’YES mentors on Thursday payed fines of four inmates from Ilesha prisons to celebrate their Commandante, day Rtd. Col. Samuel Eniibukun Oyewole’s 70th birthday.

The released inmates are; Badmus Mudasiru; Fola Seun Folorunsho; Awofadeju Saheed;
Afeez Arole;.

The delegation led by the forum’s chairman, Mr Charles Ajani said their visit is to share goodwill message from the Commandante and show love to the prisoners because of the simplicity and humane character of their leader.

The chairman stressed that some inmates only need a token to meet the condition of their bail charges but they find it difficult to have funds to regain freedom.

Mr Ajani who shared the message of hope with the prisoners urged them to learn good behaviour that would fit an omoluabi environment before ending their jail term.

He said “the released inmates will be equipped with equipment for the trade they learnt while in the prison and monitor them with the involvement of their family members” imploring the people to show love and associate with them.

He charged philanthropists and well to do in the society to come to the aid of the less privileged to make the state a better place.

“This visitation to the prison is not the first time, we have visited school for the physically challenged, stadium area, Osogbo and Abiye Motherless Babies Home to show that people in the society still care for them.

“Our leader celebrated his 70th birthday on 2nd of June which he wanted to be low key. We want the prisoners to celebrate the joy of the day with him to show that the prison is not end of their lives. We also came to also share goodwill message from the commandant to know that they have a better tomorrow.

“The forum also believes that we have a social responsibility to the society and we should not be here alone but to spread what we stand for. It is also to show what we have learnt from our leader since the establishment of scheme in Osun State.”he said

Those who spoke on behalf of the inmates appealed to the state governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola and the Chief Judge of the state to visit Ilesha prison and reform the place to save them from suffering.

He lamented that many prisoners awaiting trial have spent more than ten years in the prison and are yet to know their fate.
