Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, has accused the previous All Progressives Congress-led administration in the state under ex-Governor Gboyega Oyetola of gross financial mismanagement, alleging that he mishandled ₦4.7 billion in public funds.

Speaking on the matter, Alimi claimed that initial reports suggested ₦2.7 billion was mismanaged, but upon further scrutiny of the records, the figure was discovered to be a staggering ₦4.7 billion.

He criticized the previous administration for allegedly fabricating figures to cover up the financial discrepancies.

“The ex-Governor Oyetola and his cohorts ought to be held accountable for mismanaging public funds. At first, we thought it was ₦2.7 billion, but after checking the records, it turned out to be a whopping ₦4.7 billion,” Alimi asserted.

Beyond the financial allegations, Alimi highlighted the ongoing developmental projects under Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.

He noted that all wards across Osun State have been mandated to establish cooperative societies, with each receiving at least ₦1 million in government support. This is in addition to an earlier ₦509 million disbursed to cooperative groups.

The commissioner also underscored Adeleke’s efforts in healthcare, particularly the provision of free health insurance for retirees. Unlike other residents who contribute at least 5% of their medical expenses, retirees under the state’s scheme receive full coverage at no cost.

In his remarks, Alimi urged Osun residents to reject the APC in the next election, alleging that the opposition party was responsible for economic hardship and warning that there were plans to increase the fuel pump price to ₦2,000 per liter.

“As we approach the polls again, let us remind our people not to vote for the APC, a party that has subjected Nigerians to untold hardship. Instead, we must support Governor Adeleke and the PDP, who are committed to the betterment of Osun people,” he said.
