The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola has won the primary election of the All Progressives Congress APC in the State of Osun.
The victory means Oyetola will be the flag bearer of the APC in the September 22 governorship election.
He defeated other 17 aspirants with 127,017 total number of votes.
His closest rival, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Lasun Yussuff got 21,975 while the Speaker of the State of Osun House of Assembly, DrNajeem Salam polled 17,958 votes.
The result of the primaries was announced by a federal lawmaker, Sen Ovie Omo-Agege, the secretary of the Osun APC Guber Election Primary Committee.
The primary election was done with a Direct Process where all registered party members throughout the state participated in an Option A4 format which allowed them to cue behind the poster of their preferred aspirant at the ward level.
The Direct Primary Election coupled with the Option A4 format used in Osun is the first of its kind in Nigeria’s political history.
During his campaign to Local Governments across the state, Oyetola promised to consolidate on the achievements of Governor Rauf Aregbesola in the last seven and half years.
Oyetola is from Iragbiji in Boripe Local Government Area of the state.
