Oyetola’s Bridge Risks Imminent Collapse – Adeleke

Move Politically Motivated – APC

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has directed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to ban heavy duty trucks from plying the Olaiya bridge constructed during the administration of the immediate governor of the State, Mr Gboyega Oyetola.

Adeleke said the need arised from the technical reports on the state of the bridge, citing safety reasons.

A statement by the spokesperson to the governor, Mallam Rasheed Olawale, noted that Adeleke who presided over a security council meeting at Osogbo said the decision became necessary to protect the bridge from possible collapse and avoid untoward happenings with continuous passage by heavy trucks.

“Describing the decision as a preemptive step, Governor Adeleke said the Ministry should erect barricades across the bridge to allow only cars and buses to ply through the road.

“As a step towards implementing the directive, the Governor also instructed the Ministry to issue a travel advisory with radio jingles to sensitize members of the public and the transport ecosystem,” the statement said.

The statement further noted that the Governor assured the public that the decision was taken to protect the public and state assets while a long lasting review of the technical status of the bridge is being conducted by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.

Osun APC Tackles Gov. Adeleke Over Alleged Plan To Demolish Olaiya Flyover

Meanwhile, the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized Adeleke’s administration for its plan to demolish the iconic Olaiya flyover bridge in Osogbo.

The APC claims that the move is politically motivated and aimed at discrediting the legacy of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, now the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.

During a press conference held at the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Office in Osogbo, the APC leaders expressed their disapproval of the alleged demolition plan.

The party’s chairman, Alhaji Tajudeen Lawal, represented by Femi Kujembola, described the decision as divisive and potentially disruptive to the socio-political peace of the state.

Corroborating, the former Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, defended the construction of the flyover, stating that it was built using international best practices and passed all prescribed tests for quality.

He emphasized that the flyover was constructed to ease traffic congestion and reduce accidents at the Olaiya junction, following a tragic accident in December 2020.

Omowaiye explained that the project was handled by a reputable contractor and supervised by consultants with verifiable track records.

He warned that any attempt to dismantle the flyover would undermine the progress achieved under Oyetola’s administration.
