Oluwafemi Oyetola, son of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, has stirred controversy after allegedly donating over N50 million to his father’s hangers- on across Osun State, despite having no publicly known source of income.

The donation, which was packaged as an Eid-el-Kabir palliative, was distributed among youth leaders, socio-political youth organisations, and loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state’s 30 local government areas and Modakeke Area Office.

According to Kehinde Ayantunji, coordinator of the intervention, the sum of N1.5 million was disbursed to each local government for distribution to youth groups loyal to the former Osun governor and current federal minister.

Ayantunji said beneficiaries received between N20,000 and N50,000, depending on their category, and added that the initiative was intended to complement the efforts of Minister Oyetola “in supporting the masses” during the Sallah celebration.

“This gesture is targeted at indigent youths and loyal foot soldiers of the party. It’s part of an annual tradition by Mr Femi Oyetola, who is passionate about grassroots mobilisation,” Ayantunji claimed.

The move, however, has sparked backlash among political observers and citizens, many of whom have questioned the financial capacity of the younger Oyetola to make such a hefty donation.

While he is widely referred to as a “businessman and philanthropist”, little is publicly known about his business interests or financial dealings.

“This is not charity. This is political patronage disguised as philanthropy.

“What enterprise does he run that funds such large-scale interventions year after year? Nigerians deserve answers, ” a source within the Osun opposition circle told OSUN DEFENDER.

This is not the first time Femi Oyetola is making a headline-grabbing donation. In 2023, he distributed 31 cows and cash gifts to youth groups aligned with his father’s political base.
