Oyo ADC Denies Fear Amid Rumors Of Makinde Defection
The Oyo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied claims that it is in fear or facing internal anxiety over rumours circulating on social media that Governor Seyi Makinde may defect to the party.
The speculation emerged online in recent days, with posts claiming that negotiations were underway for the Oyo governor to join the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, there is no confirmation from credible media or official party sources supporting those claims.
Leaders of the ADC in Oyo State have not issued any official statement expressing concern or alarm over the rumoured defection. Instead, party officials have emphasised their readiness for the 2027 campaign, pointing to growing interest and membership without reference to any specific speculation about Makinde.
Governor Makinde himself has repeatedly dismissed defection rumours, although in different partisan contexts. In December 2025, he denied claims that he was planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirming his loyalty to the PDP.
Political analysts say that claims about Makinde defecting to the ADC are unverified social media rumours, and not grounded in reports from major Nigerian news organisations. As of now, there is no official confirmation from the governor’s office or the ADC regarding any move toward defection.
The rumour reflects the broader political tensions in Oyo State and the nation as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, where defections and realignments have become common talking points among political observers.
