Oyo APC Adopts Zoning For State Congress
Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have agreed to adopt a zoning arrangement ahead of the party’s nationwide state congress scheduled for Tuesday.
This is contained in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare.
He said the decision was reached during a stakeholders meeting held on Sunday at the party’s state secretariat in Oke-Ado, where an ad hoc zoning committee was constituted to allocate positions in the State Executive Committee among the 33 local government chapters.
The committee is chaired by Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, with Mr. Afeez Bolaji Repete serving as Secretary. Other members are Idris Adeoye, Adesoji Adedeji, Ajiboye Sangogade and Akeem Olatunji.
Part of the statement reads: “In line with the directives of the national leadership of our great party, stakeholders have agreed to maintain the consensus approach with which the Ward and Local Government Congresses were successfully conducted, now that it is the turn of the State Congress.
“The Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle-led Ad Hoc Zoning Committee has already swung into action, and in the next few hours, each local government chapter will know the post its representative will occupy on the State Executive Committee.
“As soon as this information is communicated by the state secretariat, relevant stakeholders in each of the 33 local government chapters are expected to meet and submit the names of their respective nominees for mandatory screening by a special team from Abuja. To this end, we urge leaders across the 33 local government areas to ensure that the best candidates are considered for nomination, as only the best is good for our great party.
“We are very confident that the nomination and screening exercises will be completed within the stipulated time, as the unveiling and inauguration of the new State Executive Committee will take place this Tuesday at the main bowl of the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan.
“Therefore, we urge all stakeholders within Oyo APC to work together in the overall interest of our great party and ensure that this year’s congress produces the desired results.”
