The House of Assembly in Oyo State has suspended Tuesday’s plenary in honor of one of its ex-members, Hon. Waliu Adekunle Ganiyu.
Hon Ganiyu was fondly known as “Ere”, died Monday after a brief illness.
It was gathered that he was an articulate lawmaker during the 7th Assembly.
Ganiyu represented Atiba State Constituency under the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), between 2011 and 2015 where he served as Chairman House Committee on Works and Transport.
The deceased was buried yesterday in his hometown, Oyo.
Members of the Assembly are expected to pay a condolence visit to the family of the deceased today.
On a phone conversation on Tuesday morning, member representing Oyo East/Oyo West in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Muideen Olagunju declared that Ganiyu’s legacy will linger in his people’s memory.
Olagunju, a lawyer, noted that it was quite normal for the Assembly to suspend its sitting because a number of the 8th Assembly lawmakers were also in the 7th Assembly with the deceased.
He said “I know him very well; we were together in Action Congress before I moved to Accord. His legacy will continue to be in people’s mind. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
“The postponement of plenary is normal. We have to understand that a good number of the present assembly members including the honorable Speaker were together with him in the 7th Assembly.
“We will all attend the third-day prayers for him”.
Another member of the Assembly who currently represents Atiba State Constituency, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, called the death of Ganiyu irreparable loss.
“What an irreparable loss. RIP Hon. Waliu Ere. May almighty forgive your shortcomings”, he wrote on Facebook.
