Oyo Govt To Probe Death Of LAUTECH Student

OSUN DEFENDER reports that pandemonium broke out at the institution on Monday when a police officer reportedly shot a student dead and wounded two others.

Reports indicate that the tragic event occurred when an unidentified police officer was called upon to resolve a dispute between two individuals on the school campus.

During the attempt to mediate, the officer allegedly fired shots into the air, resulting in the death of one student and injuries to two others.

The State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, while reacting to the killing on Tuesday, reiterated the commitment of his government to ensure the safety of students across the state.

The governor, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Salihu Adelabu at the grand finale of the 16th convocation ceremony of the university, said the government will ensure a thorough investigation is done over the issues surrounding the killing of the undergraduate.

He also assured to work harmoniously with the management of the institution and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety of students and indigenes of Ogbomoso.

The medium gathered that human and vehicular movement was partially obstructed at the Isale General roundabout for hours over students’ protests.

The death of the LAUTECH undergraduate student came at a time when the state is preparing for the Saturday, April 27 local government election across the 33 council areas in the state.
