The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Monitoring Committee for the forthcoming local government election in Oyo state has lauded the comportment of the ward delegates in choosing the standard bearers for the 2024 council election.
The monitoring committee led by Mr. Alimi Afolabi stated this while monitoring the primaries of the PDP for the Chairmanship position in the state.
Ahead of the next year election for Chairmen and Councillors of local governments in Oyo State the Peoples Democratic Party PDP organized primaries for aspirants in all the 33 local governments in the state.
Delegates from ward levels voted for their preferred aspirant at the election monitored by the officials of the state independent Electoral Commission OYSIEC.
In Ibadan North East local government, the incumbent Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Akintayo was returned to run for the second term.
At Ibadan North local government, 120 delegates from the ward levels voted and at the end of the whole process, Mr. Seun Olufade emerged winner with 117 votes while his contender Mr. Shuaib Oladayo had 2 vote and one void vote.
Also in Akinyele Local government, the former General Manager of Pace Setter Transport Services Mr. Wole Akinleye, emerged as PDP chairmanship candidate for 2024 council poll.
In Oluyole local government, the former spokesman of the ruling PDP in the state, Engr. Akeem Olatunji won votes of all hundred party delegates drawn from the ten wards in Oluyole local government.
Olatunji, who spoke to journalists shortly after the election expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for his exemplary leadership and the opportunity given him to fly the party’s flag in the coming Local Government election slated for April, 2024.
Some of the stakeholders stated that the process is rancour free and shows that the party is prepared for the 2024 local government election.
The National Monitoring team of the PDP also monitored the primary election at different councils and lauded the delegates.
The primary election were conducted under the close watch of security operatives and officers of the OYSIEC.
