Gunmen on Friday invaded Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, abducting the school principal and an unspecified number of students.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed that the incident occurred between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. within the school premises.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the attackers stormed the school and took away the principal, Mrs Rachael Alamu, alongside some students whose exact number could not immediately be confirmed.

The statement read, “Gunmen have invaded Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, abducting the principal of a secondary school and an unspecified number of students.”

Olayinka added that information from residents indicated that one of the teachers was shot during the attack.

“The source also said a teacher was shot during the attack, though the extent of the injury has not been confirmed.

“According to the report, the gunmen fled the scene with the principal in her vehicle and escaped into a forest reserve bordering the community.

“Residents said the nearest police station is some distance away, which delayed immediate response,” he said.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police had deployed tactical teams and other officers to the area for rescue efforts and assessment of the situation.
