Oyo Workers Lock Secretariat, Demand Salary Review

Scores of Oyo State workers on Monday blocked the state secretariat in Ibadan to demanding palliatives, upward review of pension allowances, payment of salary deduction among others.

The protesting workers demanded to speak with Governor Seyi Makinde over issues affecting workers in the state.

Participating in the protest are civil servants and pensioners under the banners of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and their affiliates.

Led by their union leaders, the labour are also demanding payment of leave bonuses, payment of gratuities to retirees who have stagnated since the year 2021and release of promotion letters for the Years 2021 and 2022.

The protesters brandished placards with inscriptions such as: “We want to meet with the Governor and not his representative”, “Our full salary is not enough for our transport to our place of work.”

As at the time of filing this report, no government official is yet to address the protesting workers.
