Palace, 52 Houses, 21 Shops, 3 Churches Destroyed By Rainstorm In Erinmo Ijesa

NO fewer than 52 houses and 21 shops were reportedly destroyed by rainstorm in Erinmo-Ijesa, a community in Oriade Local Government of the State of Osun.

The perimeter fence of the Elerinmo Palace, Erinmo Civic Centre and three church buildings were also destroyed by the rainstorm that lasted an hour on Monday. 

Also destroyed in the community were electricity poles and cables, billboards and household consumables, according to a report by Mr. Isaac Haastrup, a journalist in Ilesa. 

The Elerinmo of Erinmo-Ijesa, Oba Michael Odunayo-Ajayi, said the incident has rendered many residents of the community homeless, saying that roofs and walls of buildings were blown off and pulled down by the rainstorm. 

Oba Ajayi called on the State Government and the State Emergency Management Agency, as well as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to come to the rescue of the affected residents.

The Chairman of the Local Government Area, Mr. Olubunmi Obeisun and the Special Assistant to Governor On Bureau Of Social Services, (BOSS),  Mr. Abolade Ajakaye during a visit to the affected town, promised government’s urgent intervention.
