The statement reads, “An extremely unsettling incident occurred in the late hours of yesterday. Students of Great Ife were faced with a shocking situation at Mozambique Hall. A student, on her way to fetch water from a nearby storex tank fell into a septic tank. Thankfully, the swift intervention by the Students around and immediate response from the University Health Center averted what could have been a far more tragic outcome.
“The student involved has since been referred to OAUTHC for continued medical care.
“The welfare and safety of every Great Ife student remain our highest priority. We call upon the university management to urgently address these critical infrastructure concerns within the hostels, particularly given the recent fee increments. Basic facilities and safety measures must be prioritized to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
“We also wish to clarify that, contrary to initial reports, only one student fell into the septic tank. A second student, upon witnessing the situation, experienced cardiac arrest and was revived with chest compressions. Both students are now stable and discharged already.”
