Panic As Soldiers, Police Clash In Osogbo

 

There was pandemonium in Osogbo, capital of the State of Osun, on Saturday, as some soldiers and policemen engaged themselves in shootout.

OSUN DEFENDER gathered that the soldiers who were not on uniform were at popular Ajegunle market to get spare parts, while a policeman from nearby Dugbe Police Station was also at the market.

Some traders at the market told the medium that crisis started when the soldiers and policeman refused to give way with their vehicles inside the market, a situation that led serious altercation

One of the traders said, “The soldiers and that policeman did not want to reverse their vehicles. The police officer identified himself while one of the three soldiers in the car still directed him to reverse. His refusal led to the fight.

“The police officer called Dugbe Police station while another three personnel joined the soldiers.

“The matter degenerated and there was an exchange of gunshots for some minutes. We closed our shops and fled the scene to escape being shot.

The spokesperson for Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the clash but said the matter had been resolved.
