Pastor Adeboye Deletes Tweet Supporting Israel In Ongoing War After Social Media Backlash
Following a wave of backlash and criticism, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has deleted a tweet in which he expressed support for Israel in the ongoing conflict with Hamas.
The tweet contained a video in which he was seen praying for Israel and condemning Hamas.
The tweet had ignited a heated debate, with many Nigerians questioning Pastor Adeboye’s stance and urging him to address issues within Nigeria rather than taking a position on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
In a goodwill message titled: “Special message to the nation of Israel”, Adeboye said all the members of the RCCG are praying for Israel to have “absolute victory” in the ongoing conflict.
“The almighty God, the only one of Israel, will give you absolute victory and give you permanent peace from now on in the mighty name of Jesus,” Adeboye had prayed in a video clip shared on the church’s page on X.
“It is going to be well with you. We pray that this war would be the one that would be end of all wars.”
Criticising Adeboye’s message, netizens said the conflict between Israel and Hamas has nothing to do with religion but crisis over ownership of land.
Others said the general overseer may not understand the plight of the Palestinians in the ongoing war, while some accused him of neutrality during political and security tensions in Nigeria.
