Patriotism Driving Opposition Lawmakers To APC – Akpabio
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has described the recent defections from opposition parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as an act of patriotism and a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
Akpabio made the remarks on Wednesday night after accompanying Senators Agom Jarigbe of Cross River North and Kaila Samaila of Bauchi North to a meeting with the President at the State House, Abuja. Both lawmakers recently left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC.
Speaking to State House correspondents, Akpabio said the senators’ decision was driven by Tinubu’s economic reforms and commitment to national development.
“They are Mr President’s children and supporters. The President is the father of the nation and the father of all political parties,” Akpabio said.
He noted that although the senators were originally elected under different parties, Tinubu’s policies, particularly those boosting economic growth and national revenue, motivated them to join the APC to contribute to nation-building.
“Theirs is nothing but patriotism. They are focused not on which party holds power, but on who can lead Nigeria effectively, improve the economy, and put food on the tables of Nigerians,” he added.
Senator Jarigbe said his defection reflected his belief in Tinubu’s performance. “I joined the APC because the President is doing well, and I want to support him in delivering the dividends of democracy to our people,” he said.
