PDP BoT Dismisses Reconciliation Report, Affirms Convention Will Hold

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected a report by its reconciliation committee, saying it has not been adopted and does not reflect the board’s official position.

The six-man panel, inaugurated last week to mediate between the party’s two factions ahead of the national elective convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, reportedly recommended suspending the convention and setting up a caretaker committee.

The report, which leaked on Friday, drew embarrassment for the BoT, led by Adolphus Wabara.

The PDP is currently divided between factions led by Acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed and National Chairman Umar Damagum.

While Damagum’s National Working Committee enjoys the support of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Abdulrahman’s group is backed by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.

In a statement on Saturday, Wabara said, “The Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party categorically dissociates and distances itself from the purported Report of the BoT Reconciliation Committee being circulated in some sections of the media. The content of the said Report is not and does not represent the official position of the Board.”

The statement added that the BoT fully supports the elective national convention scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, 15–16 November 2025, noting that a Supreme Court judgment affirms the supremacy of political parties in managing their internal affairs.

On the suggestion for a caretaker committee, the BoT said, “Such an idea cannot be contemplated as the Board and, of course, the PDP, have irreversibly decided for an elective national convention. The BoT therefore urges party members to remain committed and focused on the success of the convention.”
