PDP Crisis Deepens And Other Newspaper Headlines Today

Ahead the December 9 national convention of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), meant to usher in new elected leaders, the crisis which the party has been enmeshed in seems to be worsening, as one of the chairmanship aspirants from the South-West, Professor Tunde Adeniran, accused the Ahmed Markarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of favoring one of the aspirants from the south-south. According to Nigerian Tribune, after the party’s botched Port Harcourt convention, PDP had zoned the chairmanship position to the south, while the party’s Presidential slot had been zoned to the North.

The Guardian however moves further from the present crisies to the request of the Igbos saying; Immortalise Ekwueme, Igbo, Others Tell FG. Tributes have been pouring in for former vice president, Dr Alex Ekwueme, just as the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, called on the Federal Government to immortalize him.

Buttressing on the death of the former Vice president The Punch headline reads; Buhari, Shagari, Obasanjo, Other Mourn Ekwueme. The print media displayed the heart of his close friends and associates.

Still on the demise of the former leader, Daily Sun reports Ekwueme: Grief, Tears. Both present and past leaders had a lot to say about the death of Ekwueme;

Moving away from the tributes given to Dr Alex Ekwueme, Independent closes the curtains for today with Trail of Judges Not To Intimidate Judiciary- Buhari. President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday assured the judiciary community that the recent investigation involving some judges was not aimed at intimidating the judiciary. The president stated this while declaring open the 2017 All Nigerian Judges Conference held at the National Judicial Institute, Abuja, further maintained that the action was in no way a prelude to usurping the powers of the National Judicial Council (NJC)
