PDP Factions Begin Reconciliation Talks

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially commenced reconciliation talks between its warring factions, led by Kabiru Turaki and Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

The move follows an advisory by the Court of Appeal in Ibadan, Oyo State, urging both sides to seek a peaceful resolution to lingering disputes within the party.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Turaki said the PDP Board of Trustees, chaired by Adolphus Wabara, had set up a committee to engage estranged members and address internal issues.

He added that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) postponed the National Executive Committee (NEC) and national caucus meetings as a gesture of goodwill to ease tensions.

Turaki said both camps have now “broken the ice” and are exploring pathways to resolve the dispute ahead of the 2027 elections.

“I can unequivocally confirm that, as of today, leaders on both sides have broken the ice and are exploring various pathways towards a lasting resolution,” he said, urging members and supporters to avoid inflammatory remarks that could derail the process.

He assured aspirants that the PDP would field candidates for all elective positions in line with its constitution, adding that the party remains mindful of Electoral Act timelines while resolving its internal crisis.

Commending Nigerians for registering on the party’s e-platform, Turaki described it as evidence of sustained public confidence in the PDP, which he called a “legacy party” committed to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy through credible opposition.

He further announced that the NWC passed a vote of confidence on Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi, and Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo, for their leadership during the crisis.

Earlier this month, the Abuja Court of Appeal nullified the PDP national convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, upholding a Federal High Court judgment that restrained the party from conducting the event, which had been organised by the faction backed by Makinde and Mohammed.
