No fewer than eighteen members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ila-Orangun, Ila local government area of Osun were on Tuesday admitted into the state general Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo after being attacked by the hoodlums suspected to be political thugs.
The victims according to our correspondent sustained various degree of injuries in political attacks that occurred in the sleepy community last week Saturday.
They had earlier been admitted at the state Hospital, Ila-Orangun before they were later being transferred to state general hospital where they are currently receiving treatment
Narrating their ordeals, one of the victims, Mr Adebayo Ismail said some political thugs descended on them on Saturday with cutlass and other dangerous weapons.
Speaking on the development, the chairman of All progressive congress in osun state, Prince Gboyega Famodun urged the police to wade in and put an end to political attacks in the state.
Famodun decried the attack,saying it was capable of causing political crisis in the state.
Describing the incident as barbaric and condemnable, Famodun said PDP resorted to violence because they believed that the only way through which they could wrestle power from them is violence.
“In Ila-Orangun on Saturday morning, hoodlums suspected to be political thugs working for PDP decided to attack my members with cutlass, guns, knives and machetes. They were shooting sporadically into the air and a times attempting to shoot at our people.
“Also, there are serious attacks in Atakunmosa east, houses were burnt, party chairman was harassed, his houses were burnt. The index finger of the daughter of Iyaloja Atakunmosa was cut away by hoodlums of PDP”
He called on members and supporters of the party to maintain calm and shun all forms of reprisal in the interest of peace.
Osun state commissioner for police, Mrs Abiodun Ige noted that police would ensure that perpetrators of dastardly acts were brought to justice.
Mrs Ige charged politicians to play the game according to the rules saying police would not tolerate any act of lawlessness.
It would be recalled that similar attacks occurred in Iwara and Igangan in Atakumosa east local government area of the state.
