The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that its national convention will be held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025, with the event expected to signal what the party described as its “re-launch” as Nigeria’s credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Addressing journalists at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, disclosed that the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) has already inaugurated 11 subcommittees covering logistics, security, media, transport, and other critical areas to ensure a seamless and inclusive convention.

“Our party is organic, democratic, and connected to the people. Whatever comes out of Ibadan will put the PDP on a very solid ground to take over government in 2027,” Ologunagba said.

He confirmed that the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had approved the zoning of national offices, while micro-zoning consultations were ongoing across the six geopolitical zones. He added that the sale of nomination forms for party offices was still in progress.

Meanwhile, the opposition party has demanded the full implementation of the Electoral Act 2022 provisions on electronic transmission of results during the 2027 polls, warning that it would resist any attempt to manipulate the process or undermine the will of Nigerians.

Ologunagba said the party was deeply concerned about what it described as “institutional manipulation” of past elections, particularly the 2023 general elections where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) admitted that “glitches” marred real-time result transmission.

“There must be no glitches in 2027. If POS machines work seamlessly across the remotest parts of this country, then INEC cannot claim that its BVAS machines suddenly fail on election day. That would be deliberate, institutional manipulation, and Nigerians will not accept it,” the spokesman warned.

He stressed that the survival of Nigeria’s democracy depends on INEC guaranteeing that “every vote counts and every vote is seen to count.”

The PDP said its Ibadan convention would not only reposition the party for 2027 but also reaffirm its readiness to defend Nigeria’s democracy and provide a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
