PDP Like an Iroko Tree, Not Dead – Bode George

A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Bode George, has described the party as a deep-rooted Iroko tree, dismissing claims that it is dead.

George made the statement while reacting to the police blockade of the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, which disrupted a scheduled BoT meeting.

He said the police officers stationed at the premises claimed they were acting on orders “from above,” although the FCT Police Command has denied sealing off the building.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, George said, “No way; those are dreamers. I’m telling you they are first-class dreamers. In political management, ownership structure, camaraderie—what we have in the PDP, they don’t have.”

He emphasised that despite internal challenges, the PDP remains firm and enduring.

“The former ruling party is the Iroko political party of Nigeria. Its roots remain deep and intact,” he added.

Narrating the incident, George said, “It was disgraceful. It’s like going back to your home and suddenly it’s surrounded by police. I thought, what in the globe is happening?

“The police officers were not rough, they were civil. When I asked if they had a court order, they said, ‘Sir, we are on orders.’ So I went into the building, went upstairs, and then left for the rescheduled meeting at the Yar’Adua Centre.

“I was so furious about what was going on. Who is the order from above? That’s what we kept asking until we got to the NEC meeting. I’m sure that will never happen again—it has never happened before.”

George concluded by noting that the experience is part of the crisis the party is going through, saying it has taught party members important lessons.
