PDP Is Never A Threat To APC In 2019, Governors Boast As They Meet With Osinbajo

Governors on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday boasted that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is never a threat to the party and will surely defeat them again in 2019.

The APC governors spoke after a closed door meeting with Acting President Yemi Osinbajo at the presidential villa, Abuja.

The governors met with Osinbajo shortly after the National Economic Council (NEC) to deliberate strategies ahead of its planned national convention.

The governors, led by the chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, Rochas Okorocha, said they were not bothered about the PDP and were only concerned to put their own house in order.

Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, Okorocha said the governors were at the State House for the crucial meeting with Acting President Osinbajo to find a way forward of the planned convention.

Okorocha noted that despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s absence from the country as leader of the party, APC will not fail to conduct its national convention.

He debunked speculation that the revival of the PDP was putting the ruling party under pressure to act, saying that the APC does not care about PDP.

“No, PDP is a non-issue. We don’t even care about that. We defeated them when they were in power. So, what is different when we are now in power?” he asked.

The meeting of the APC governors with the Acting President is coming amidst confusions that the party is unable to proceed with arrangement for a national convention due to Buhari’s continued stay in London.

Okorocha, however, told reporters at the Presidential Villa that the absence of the President will not stop the conduct of the convention.

He said that the convention was delayed because of the need to put the APC in order.

He said: “We came to discuss issues relating to our party and our government and how to move our party forward.

“We discussed a lot of issues on how to move the party forward, how to strengthen the party and how to make sure our party remains victorious in all elections.

“Very soon, we will have convention. That is part of the things we are discussing. The convention not taking place has nothing to do with the absence of the president or the Acting President.

“We are just putting our house in order and making sure things are in the right form before we kick off,” he stressed.
