PFIPC Scandal: Presidency Should Come Clean — Kwankwasiyya Movement
The Kwankwasiyya Movement has called on the Presidency to give a comprehensive explanation over the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), saying the issue has evolved beyond the actions of an individual and now represents a major test of transparency and accountability.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, the movement expressed concern over the controversy, describing it as one that raises significant questions about governance and openness in government.
The group noted that although the Presidency has denied the existence of the PFIPC and disowned individuals claiming to represent it, reports that over N1 billion was allocated to an entity bearing the same or a similar name in the 2026 Appropriation Act require a clear public explanation.
“The Kwankwasiyya Movement has watched with profound concern the unfolding controversy surrounding the so-called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). What initially appeared to be a case involving an individual has now developed into a serious test of the credibility, transparency, and accountability of the Federal Government,” the statement said.
The movement maintained that the matter should not be dismissed as the alleged misconduct of one person but should instead be subjected to public scrutiny.
“This controversy cannot simply be dismissed as the misconduct of one individual. Nigerians are entitled to know: If the council never existed, how did it find its way into the national budget? Who proposed and approved the allocation? Which government offices processed the documentation? Was any public money released or committed? If official documents were allegedly forged, how were they used for such a long period without detection?”
It stressed that the questions were not politically motivated but centred on public accountability.
The group recalled that President Bola Tinubu’s administration assumed office with promises of institutional reform, transparency and responsible governance, adding that its handling of the PFIPC controversy would reflect its commitment to those pledges.
“The Tinubu administration came into office promising renewed hope, institutional reform, and responsible governance. Those promises must now be measured against its willingness to provide full disclosure on this and other matters. Silence, contradictions, or attempts to shift responsibility will only deepen public distrust,” it said.
The movement also warned that the controversy could damage Nigeria’s reputation internationally, noting that investors consider not only economic policies but also the credibility and integrity of government institutions.
According to the statement, uncertainty over the authenticity of government agencies or official appointments could undermine investor confidence in the country’s governance and business environment.
The group called on the Presidency to publish a detailed account of the matter, including how the budgetary allocation originated, the administrative procedures involved and the steps being taken to prevent a recurrence.
It also urged the National Assembly, anti-corruption agencies and other oversight bodies to conduct an independent investigation into every aspect of the controversy.
“We therefore call on the Presidency to publish a comprehensive account of the facts, including the origin of the budgetary provision, the administrative processes involved, and the actions being taken to prevent similar occurrences,” the statement said.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, the movement insisted that public funds belong to Nigerians and must be properly accounted for.
“We will continue to demand transparency, not because of politics, but because public office is a public trust. Every naira appropriated belongs to the Nigerian people, and every public institution must be accountable to them.
“No democracy can flourish where questions are discouraged or contradictions go unexplained. The Nigerian people deserve the truth, and they deserve it without delay,” the statement added.
