No fewer than twenty-five students of Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State, have been arraigned in court for their alleged involvement in the death of their colleague, Alex Timileyin.
They were arraigned on Wednesday before a Chief Magistrate Court, Ibadan Magisterial District .
The students, accused of beating Timileyin to death for allegedly stealing a mobile phone, have been remanded in prison until July 8 pending trial.
Timileyin was beaten to death in a hostel called Shepherd Inn on the university premises. The beating reportedly lasted many hours.

The suspects are: 1. Kumolu Opeyemi Daniel (21), 2. Oluwole Olanshile Thompson (25), 3. Lawal Victor Tomilola (23), 4. Omolakin Oluwatomiwa Anthony (24), 5. Folorunsho Oluwakunmi (21), 6. Bolarinwa Oloruntoyinbo Victor (20), 7. Oladoye Femi Ola (34), 8. Kehinde Olasusuyi Martins (32), 9. Okorie Samuel (20), 10. Mustapha Khalid (23), 11. Mustapha Usman Segun (19), 12. Adeniran Yusuf (20) and 13. Oloyede Femi (18).
Others are 14. Areye Joseph Aduragbemi (19), 15. Oyelakin Tyanuoluwatomiwa (18), 16. Olalekan Obaloluwa (20), 17. Adejumobi Emmanuel (18), 18. Daudu John Oluwaseun (18), 19. Gana Solomon (21), 20. Moses Abiola (20), 21. Tijani Hammad (21), 22. Omon-Fumen Jenkins (21), 23. Okay-Aroh Gerald (20), 24. Kolawole David (22) and 25. Afesojaye Emmanuel (18).
The court said the suspects and “others now at large, on the 24th day of May, 2024, at about 9:00pm, at Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo in the Oyo Magisterial district triable in the Ibadan Magisterial district did conspire with one another to commit felony to wit: Murder and thereby committed an offence Contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

“COUNT III: That you OLADOVE FEMI OLA ‘M’ and KEHINDE OLABUSUYI
MARTINS ‘M’, on the 24th day of May, 2024, at about 9:00pm, at Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo in the Oyo Magisterial district triable in the Ibadan Magisterial district did Conspire with one another to commit felony to wit: Acceleration of death and thereby committed an offence Contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oya State of Nigeria, 2000.
“COUNT IV: That you OLADOVE FEMI OLA ‘M’ and KEHINDE OLABUSUYI MARTINS ‘M’, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial district being the security guard and Porter employed by the University did unlawfully omit to rescue one AKRO JEFRY ‘M’ AGE 22YRS from other aggrieved students who beat him to death and thereby committed an offence Contrary to Section 311 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.”
An activist from Itsekiri in the Warri Kingdom, Delta State, known as ‘Lord Of Warri’, expressed his happiness with the development on his X account on Wednesday.
He said, “Today June 5th, 25 students were arraigned in court in connection with the tragic murder of Prince Alex Timileyin, a son of the Warri Kingdom and a student at Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo. The court has remanded them in prison until July 8th, pending trial.
“We appreciate the efforts of the Oyo State Government and the Oyo State Police Command in pursuing justice and ensuring that the perpetrators are held accountable. We await the trial and expect that justice will be served in its entirety.”
