Senator Pam Dachungyang of Plateau State officially left the Action Democratic Party (ADP) on Thursday to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), ending weeks of speculation about his political future.

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, read Dachungyang’s defection letter on the Senate floor during plenary.

In the letter, titled “Notice of Defection from the Action Democratic Party,” the lawmaker cited persistent internal conflicts and irreconcilable differences within the ADP, which he said had hindered his ability to function effectively as a senator.

“I write to inform you of my defection to the All Progressives Congress, effective immediately,” Dachungyang stated, adding that the decision followed consultations with his constituents, political associates, and stakeholders.

“This step aligns with my commitment to good governance, inclusive development, and the overall interest of the people I represent.”

The senator blamed prolonged internal wrangling within the ADP for his exit, saying it had limited his capacity to deliver effective representation at the National Assembly.

Dachungyang expressed optimism about joining the APC, describing it as a stable and progressive platform to advance his legislative priorities.

He formally requested the Senate to recognise his defection in line with constitutional provisions, further boosting the ruling party’s strength in the upper chamber.
