Plateau State Government Awards 1bn Contract For Water Treatment
The Plateau State Government has embarked on a water treatment project to upgrade water for portable consumption.
Mr David Wuyep, the Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy, made this known today while speaking to newsmen in Jos, the state capital.
The commissioner spoke about the purchase of the chemical to help the Government with the provision of steady portable water for the public.
Wuyep said the government would resuscitate the water treatment plants in Shendam, Pankshin and Bokkos local government areas to ensure that residents got clean water for their daily use.
He opined that the ready availability of potable water would also guard against waterborne diseases.
He added that rusty water pipes in Jos and Bukuru areas had been replaced, while asbestos water pipelines had been installed.
According to him, the ministry, in collaboration with the EU and UNICEF, drilled 340 hand pumps in Shendam and Riyom local government areas of the state. This he said would in no small measure boost the efforts of the state government in providing portable water.
