Police Announce Movement Restriction In Lagos Ahead Of Council Polls

The Lagos State Police Command has announced a total restriction of movement across the state on Saturday, July 12, 2025, due to the local government elections.

The restriction, which will affect all vehicular movements, is scheduled to last from 3:00am to 3:00pm on the election day.

According to a statement released on Wednesday, certain categories of individuals will be exempted from the restriction, although specific details were not provided.

This development comes amid concerns raised by the Lagos chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) over the credibility of the upcoming polls.

AAC, through its State Secretary, Jegede Kehinde, on Tuesday accused the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) of poor preparations, lack of transparency, and undermining democratic principles.

Kehinde criticised LASIEC’s chairman and board for their handling of the electoral process.

“Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission LASIEC must have known that the local government election is not a joke, as we are seriously looking for a government that will be impacted positively by people at the grassroots,” he said.

He further accused the LASIEC chairman of operating with undue control and partisanship.
